Award win is something to SHOUT! about
![]() |
Oxford Citizens Housing Association, part of the GreenSquare housing group, has won the 2010 TPAS Southern Region Award for 'Best Practice in the Community' for its SHOUT! project - a partnership with the Spurgeons charity.
SHOUT! is a youth and community project working across several neighbourhoods in Oxfordshire. It focuses on tackling antisocial behaviour, encouraging community cohesion, and improving intergenerational relations.
To date, SHOUT! has worked in four key areas – The Waterways and Falcon Close, in Oxford; and Poolside Close and Thornbury Rise in Banbury.
Andrew Smith, OCHA's managing director, said: "The win is terrific news for OCHA and Spurgeons and all the others who have been involved in the project from its inception four years ago.
"This award, and the success of SHOUT! generally, is testament to the fact that you really can deliver more by working in partnership with others to make a real, and lasting, difference - breaking down barriers and bridging gaps between the generations."
Activities run as part of SHOUT! have focused on working with individuals and families, providing activities and community events; tackling community issues, including the use of green spaces; challenging antisocial behaviour and providing diversionary activities; and promoting volunteering, participation and positive social behaviour.
The TPAS Awards are run by TPAS, a not-for-profit membership organisation that provides information, consultancy, training and conferences on all aspects of involving tenants in their housing management.
Having won the Southern Region award, SHOUT! will now compete against the winners of the Northern and Midlands regions at the TPAS Awards national final in July.
